MusiCares Person of the Year

AEG wanted to recognize and congratulate Dolly Parton on being chosen as the Grammy Recording Academy’s MusiCares Person of the Year in 2019 – which was quite the honor considering she was the first country-music artist to be named in the 29-year history of the award.

I wanted to create something more than just a photo of Dolly and some text.

Not knowing much about country music, nor Dolly, I dove in head first. I discovered that her self-described “symbol” is the butterfly. She’s been fascinated with them since childhood and she loves them so much that the swimming pool at her home near Nashville has a butterfly design at the bottom. Dollywood’s logo even has a butterfly in it. Who knew?

I came up with this concept of the microphone with a butterfly perched on top with a spotlight shining subtly in the background. I composited many photos to create the end result which was a success and represented her in a creative and unique way.
